In addition to the embryonic stem cells there are stem cells in the adults. These stem cells are multipotent and the specific ones responsible for musculoskeletal regeneration are called Mesechymal Stem Cells (MSCs). These cells can multiply themselves and differentiate to important cells like cartilage, tendons, muscle and bone. Moreover they have anti-inflammatory action providing rapid relief of symptoms. They regulate also other cells and molecules called growth factors to assist healing in acute and chronic lesions of the joints and tendons. MSCs can be found in many sites of the body like subcutaneous fat, joint capsule, tendon layers and bone marrow.
